This past weekend THE DROP made the jump into video. First out of the gate is an interview with Lavender Diamond’s, Becky Stark. Get to know this group because they are great and do a feel good show. The interview was part of a bigger project called The Great American Road Trip and we took time to catch a great show and talk with Ms. Stark about what’s going on with the crew of Lavender Diamond.
Earlier this spring (February) THE DROP played host to David Bazan and Pattern is Movement for an incredible show at Sweet Briar College. If you missed it, here’s the recap. A Big thanks goes to Music Editor Matt Benson, Dan Jones, Delorean Graham and Bethany Larsen for their hard work putting this together.
One year ago this week we launched a small site and hoped for the best. Countless posts and hundreds of thousands of viewers later, we’re still here. And since this is our Birthday week and I thought it’d be cool if I gave some stuff away.
It’s super easy to win, here’s the deal:
1.) Submit a mix of your favorite music (5-10 tracks) in the comments section of this post before 3/28. Song Title and Artist please.(winners will be selected and notified via email for their mailing address)
2.) Style points awarded based on how the mix fits together either lyrically or thematically. (80’s metal, love ballads, and other non current music mixes acceptable and encouraged)
3.) The music editors will be selecting the winners.
Remember: THE DROP isn’t about trying to be cool it’s about how music affects all of us so give it your best shot.
So what do you win? I thought you’d never ask. How about I’ve got some limited pressing of t-Shirts from THE DROP complete with THE DROP logo on a 100 cotton T. Plus I’ve got a ton of CD’s to give away from THE DROP Vault.
Tell your friends and submit your best spring mix for big prizes from THE DROP.
I just posted about 70 photos to Flickr to give you a ringside seat on all the action from the latest installment of THE DROP Live! at Sweet Briar College. The show itself was a great one featuring songs from all of Bazans’ work with Pedro the Lion (currently touring with Ben Gibbard) as well as from his release, “Fewer Moving Parts”. Pattern is Movement also brought the noise and the funk as they jammed through a bakers dozen of songs mostly from their critically acllaimed “Stowaway” release. Pattern will next be heading to SXSW and you should check them out at the Hometapes Showcase (Scott Solter will be with them). Details on their Mypace page. After all the Austin merriment, the gents head into the studio to begin recording album number 3.
We just inked a deal with Etix.com to carry all the ticket sales for all of our live events for the next year and the winner is clearly - You! Making sure you can get into on THE DROP Live! events is getting tougher and tougher, so with a little help from Etix, that process is now super smooth. We chose Etix because of there user friendly interface and their willingness to fit our niche.
THE DROP kicks off the Concerts for this year with David Bazan, Pattern is Movement and Bosc on 2/17 so buy your tickets now.
We’re looking for a music lover that enjoys talking about music, reading about it, writing about it. Ideal applicants drive long hours to see shows that aren’t close to them just to catch their favorite band live. In a perfect world this blogger is already very active as a music maven in their community of friends. There is no preference stylistically, only that the appreciation for music transcends a single genre. Serious applicants should send a sample article or link to their blog along with their contact info to info[at]thedroponline.com
Senior Music Editor and general heartthrob, Matt Benson was recently featured in The Burg with his review of the insanity (ie. Killer Rock Show) that happened on the campus of Lynchburg College this past weekend. Matt’s review of Brand New’s concert can be found on newstands now (it’s a free publication so wallpaper your room with his work) and has begun my new affinity for the local paper.
What an evening! With rain pouring down as thick as the political mudslinging found around the country on Tuesday it was nice to take a couple hours away from the news media for some great music. After some technical issues the show got underway and Matt Mackey pulled out the stops in a quality performance amongst a restless crowd. Through his performance he tamed the antsy bunch and closed the show out with “One more cigarette”. You could hear a pin drop as he hit the last note.
Next was Militia Group newcomer, Chase Pagan. Last week found him in NYC for the CMJ Music Marathon and the buzz on the internet was at fever pitch this week as he entered town. Chase played through a set that was paradoxical, blending old school and upcoming songs on his next release (Spring 2008) Switching between guitar and piano and even grabbing songs written when he was 17.
Matt Benson is currently whipping up some killer video so you can experience the show for yourself and to peak all of your senses.. including taste.
As always THE DROP Live! will be podcasting all of this musical wonder to your ears courtesy of a digital musical interface of choice. (That’s tech speak for a computer)
Additional Highlights from the Show:
“The amp blew up.. THE AMP BLEW UP!”
Probably the craziest story involving a mongoose I’ll ever hear (because there are so many)
Show attendees finding a keyboard and a keyboard rack to use in a pinch because Chase was sans stand. Further proof to never underestimate the power of an audience at an event by THE DROP Live!
Finally meeting all those internet stalkers… you know who you are.. and I love you.
Join the crew of THE DROP tonight for some great music and since The Drowsy Poet installed those dancing poles over the weekend, tonight should be interesting to say the least. Bring your five bucks, you’re best girl or guy and get ready for for Militia Groups newest import and don’t forget the to ask for the “Milton”
