Adam Bodine - Music Editor

Adam grew up in the outskirts of Detroit, MI, and fell in love with music at an early age. Some of his earliest memories include watching Top 100 countdowns on MTV back when they actually played music. Adam’s pension for eclectic music began in the mid 90s when bands like Our Lady Peace, Tonic, and Sister Hazel grabbed his attention. The world of independent music opened to Adam in college when a friend began introducing him to bands such as Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, Modest Mouse, and Jimmy Eat World. Living close to Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids afforded Adam the opportunity to attend more concerts than he could count (and usually more than he can remember). Adam is also quite proud of the two journeys he made to Chicago while in college to see The Gloria Record live. The second of those trips introduced him to both The Frames and Sleeping At Last. In recent years, Adam has come full circle, out of indie snobbery, and back to a point where he is willing to admit he likes music that is catchy, with solid lyrics, and even some stuff just because it has a good beat.

A Word From Our Commenters

Posted on 14 March 2007 by Dan Portnoy

HELLO!!!

Just recently this was posted on the site. This commenter has brought up a great point so here it is:

So do you guys get free Cds before they come out. I mean Pitchfork, tinymixtapes and view other places have not done a review yet for some albums. So you must get the cd’s early.

The answer is: Yes, sometimes we get free Cd’s from many different labels. Militia Group, Nettwerk, Sub Pop and many others send CD’s our way and we couldn’t thank them enough for their willingness to let us get our mitts on some of these albums. Unfortunately, this whole internet thing is moving so fast that many labels are still figuring out where non traditional or new media fit into older music models. And for some smaller labels the idea of servicing every media outlet is just not an option. So.. if you’ve got a label and feel like submitting your art to THE DROP here’s the address -

Spotlight on Music Editors - Coury Palermo

Posted on 06 February 2007 by Dan Portnoy

Coury Palermo

This week THE DROP welcomes Coury Palermo to it’s writing staff. I’ve had a chance to get to know Coury both professionally (he’s in a stellar band, Lynden. We’ve talked about them before.) and personally (he’s swell) and I’m really excited to have him as part of the crew.

For his role with THE DROP, he’s going to be reporting and giving us the lowdown from music capital, Nashville Tennesee. Heading up columns/features like:

Freshly Mixed - A column that features new and undiscovered music via an iTunes playlist.

Past/Present - A feature that reviews albums that were largely overlooked in the mainstream but deserve an audience.

I don’t want to wreck all the surprises but professionally Lynden is going to have a massive year - more info to follow on all of the Lynden goings on soon.

The Drop is still looking for music editors - if you think you’ve got the moxy to submit on a regular basis, shoot me an email - info@thedroponline.com
