When compiling a best of list, it’s a daunting task, and the reason behind the delay. When commenting on how good an album is that differs sharply than an album with a few good tracks on it. From front to back the album has to be enjoyable and the listener is looking forward to each track. To sum up 365 days of music listening is near impossible, so I employed the help of my Last.fm profile to help gauge what I was checking out. A number of great albums came out over the past year and to be honest… I kind of lost track after a while. Going into 2007 I felt we were in for a tremendous year for music. In retrospect that is certainly debatable. Maybe I haven’t had enough time to reflect on all of the albums I had the chance to listen to… I don’t know really. But I do not that I was more than satisfied with what I did hear. I have attempted to put together a concise list of the music that I feel was the best overall. There are some good albums that I had to leave off of the list… i.e. Sigur Ros - Heim/Hvarf, Sherwood - A Different Light, Paramore - RIOT!, & Matt Pond PA - Last Light. With the music industry in a current state of dwarfing - record buyers feasted on a variety of new and recycled goods in 2007. From new wave inspired hip-hop to the rediscovery of doo-woop - it was a year of stellar debuts and brilliant returns - where digital singles became the competition and albums were picked through as if the whole was no longer the goal.
