Since moving to Los Angeles I’ve been able to connect with a lot of ridiculously talented people. When I’m asked if it’s true about walking down the street and meeting artists, musician, writers, and actors. I say “Sure, and then I kick them in the shins”. It’s what LA is about. (That may or may not be true)
What is true is that since making the move I’ve been able to connect with Corrie Greathouse and I’ve seen her perform. She’s got a show coming up and I thought you’d want to know a little more about the person behind the pretty face.
Where do you draw your art from? Where do you find inspiration?
Moments. moments that pass like chance. The breaths, sighs, small things. The unsaid. There is so much that lives in the space between words. That is where I draw from, the space between words. The greatest inspiration comes the moment I am fully present. Aware of my humanity and that of those around me. Entirely immersed in the experiential. The sensory. The idea that each moment is extraordinary.
What can we expect watching your show?
Glimpses of the soul. My hope is always to engage my audience, to share parts of She with them. Parts unfamiliar and universal. While I have work in print, when I perform live, I perform pieces from my book Portraits: Invisible Ink on Parchment and new work. Ambient musician graffiti61 creates the most hypnotic soundscapes that work with my voice to draw the audience into my world. I have always been a fan of ambient music and the first time I heard his work, I knew we would do something together to push the envelope, allowing our respective work to evolve in tandem.
How did you get started?
Getting started? Heh. I’ve always been writing. Though, before I could spell, my mother probably called it drawing. My work in its present form has been realized through a series of evolutions that, undoubtedly, will continue. It was a struggle to find my voice on the page, to translate the way I heard my words to a page where they could be read. To move it from the page to the performance space has been an incredible experience.
What do you aspire to?
To write in such a way that people feel less alone, to be absolutely vulnerable.
What’s happening in the near future (tour/release/etc)??
Wow! There is so much going on! I just released a cd with graffiti61 called “this is for you.” I have a new book coming out called Unveiling Armature and am working on a one woman show by the same name. Touring the country in February and March. I am really excited about that! So excited I can scarcely contain myself, really. I’ll be keeping a video blog of my travels. Planning to leave Los Angeles in mid-february. I have a date scheduled at the Bowery in NYC on March 4 [http://www.bowerypoetryclub.com]. Right now, we are figuring out the details between points A and B. I am living in the midst of the extraordinary. There will be updates and dates on my myspace page http://www.myspace.com/corriegreathouse and on my website http://www.corriegreathouse.com You can also find graffiti61’s music on his myspace page http://www.myspace.com/graffiti61music or on itunes.

graffiti61 is the brainchild of Hollywood-based ambient/electronic/minimilast sound artist Dominic Massaro. Employing a combination of slow tempos, drones, synth textures, delays and reverbs, graffiti61 creates music that is both haunting and soothing
