Nada Surf - Lucky?

nada-surf-1242514724_l.jpgLucky? I certainly believe they will be. Nada Surf broke onto the scene in 1996 with the MTV hit “Popular.” Since then they haven’t seen quite as much of the limelight, but 2003’s Let Go and 2005’s Weight Is A Gift both received outstanding critical acclaim. With a flurry of internet hype and a free song download, Lucky has become one of the most anticipated albums of 2008. This album may not top the pop charts right out of the gate, but as it proliferates through the airwaves, internet, and various television soundtracks, Nada Surf may just be riding this high (see picture).

My prediction is that this album will find a place in many “Best of 2008″ lists.

The album leads off with the strong single, “See These Bones,” which has been in heavy rotation on iPods and the like for the last two months. The rest of the album is a bit of an eclectic mix from indie rock anthems (Whose Authority, Weightless) to pure pop melodies (Beautiful Beat, I Like What You Say) to more sparsely arranged folk ballads (Are You Lightning) and even the slightly twangy “Here Goes Something.” Don’t let any of those adjectives throw you off. This is truly a solid album in which every track is fully capable of getting stuck in your head all day long - a must listen.
