Starting in January Andy Zipf presents “Pfriends on Pfilm”, a forty-five minute multi-media presentation of songs, and story all projected onto a screen that coincides with the music. Zipf is a long time road warrior and plays venues from concert halls to living room. His greatest strength as an artist is to connect with an audience. When I heard and saw (via Youtube) the possibilities of this tour, I got giddy. So I caught up with Andy via email with some questions and I thought you’d want to see.
Andy, you’ve always had a hugely engaging live show but is bringing video
into the mix going to be too much for us to bear?
I think the visual element will mesh well with the live show I’ve worked on for the past few years. I’m excited for people to see it, and I don’t feel anyone will be led astray by the addition of video.
Is all the content new?
I will be playing some new songs, and I’ve reworked some old ones. My friend Pete Lim will be playing Wurlitzer and percussion, so this will be the closest thing to seeing me with a band for those people who are used to the solo show. It goes without saying that the visual aspect is completely new, and most of the images that Brad Wolf is designing are original.
Where did you get the inspiration to move into more of a multi media format?
My manager and I have been talking about using film, or video, as part of my show for a couple of years. So, its been in the back of my mind for a while. A few months ago, I started talking to Brad and Pete about the Pfriends on Pfilm idea. About the same time, I saw a trailer for
Heima, the Sigur Ros movie. That inspired me to make the idea a reality. Many of my favorite shows have had well crafted light production, or multi-media presentations. I have always wanted to do something like this, and though I don’t have the tour budget of say, Radiohead (who have also provided timely inspiration via ‘In Rainbows’), I do have some very talented and creative pfriends who were willing to help me make this happen.
How long have you been working on this show this show to perform live?
In all, I would estimate we’ve been developing Pfriends on Pfilm for about four months. Its been amazing to see it all take shape. I can’t wait to unveil the show.
Make sure you don’t miss out on the multi media explosion of Pfriends on Pfilm in your neck of the woods.
