Codes In the Clouds

New instrumental, post rockers, Codes in The Clouds (Erased Tapes) announce their first 7″ release complete with a CD and download code for additional music. Easy comparisons of their work float right to the top with all the gusto that you’d expect of Explosions in the Sky or Mogwai. Hailing from the UK, Codes, starts with all the right moves and then goes quiet only to erupt in a monolith of sound minutes later. You don’t have to take my word for it Download the B-Side to Distant Street Lights – “Fractures”

i’ve seen these guys at the British Music Week in Cologne. back then i already knew… first they’ll take England, then they’ll take the States. and Germany in-between of course… easy! ace music!

seen these guys didn’t think much of em….just like everything else out at the moment with no lyrics….bit shit tbh….i saw em at BMW too and expected them to blow me away but no stage presence at all….

I honestly believe these guys will do very well … i have seen them play on a number of occassions (BMW actually being one of my favourite) and they just go from strength to strength … the music is progressing as is their experience and this shows with each successive gig. With a new top notch drummer(the drummer on the recording being a guest from another band) and the new influx of creativity the new member brings i feel there is definitely going to be more to look forward to. The general positive response to this release will build their confidence and when they do start pushing boundaries people will be more receptive towards it. This release is a good foundation on which to begin a solid reputation as their ever growing fanbase proves. However i will say they are definitely an act to experience live, while the recordings are well mixed they cannot capture the passion and intensity you see radiating from these guys on stage. The bassist and one guitarist anchors the set by staying static, their quiet intensity is clearly evident. Whilst the other two guitarists belt out the tunes with a perfomance to match; guitars swinging, toes tapping, back to back, battling it out … they physically throw themselves into the performance. Injecting all their energy and it pays off. They enjoy it … and the grins on their faces are generally reflected by the applause of the crowd.
